Petunias
Petunias perform best in the cooler seasons of spring or fall. Petunias will tolerate light to moderate freezes okay. Only the very hard freezes will kill them, the kind of freezes we don't get every year. If you plant them in the fall or early spring, they will provide color on into summer, as long as they are planted in a good location and properly cared for. A good location means full sun with well-drained soil. Proper care means watering as needed and light monthly fertilization. If you get really lucky, the petunias may even live through the summer and revive with the cooler weather of the fall. More likely though, the petunias will succumb to the heat and humidity of summer. Then you can replace them with more heat-tolerant flowers, until it's time to replant petunias in the fall.
