Another good flower choice to plant in fall to early spring  is dianthus. Dianthus is very cold hardy. It will flower into late spring or early summer. Some types of dianthus will live several years here, performing as a perennial. But it is more common that they will perform as annuals, as it is quite possible that you will eventually lose dianthus during the heavy summer rains. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil.
